Which way of quit smoking will work for you?

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

How many quit smoking ways are available? Do you know? The answer is easy. Every smoker quits smoking in his own particular way even when using the same technique of quitting other smokers used. The reason for this is that people start smoking for different reasons - that is why they will quit for different reasons.

Once a smoker knows the facts about nicotine, the smoking habit makes him nervous about the dangers of smoking and the trouble he causes for his own body. But to quit smoking can make him even more nervous. Telling themselves it is not good for them and that they are shortening their lives just does not seem to get the message past the addiction to nicotine.

One of the best quit smoking ways is to sit down and write down how much money you have spent on smoking and its derived consequences during the past period and write down what you could have done with that amount of money. For the same of even numbers, assume you smoke $5 worth of cigarettes per day. At the end of the year you could buy yourself something nice with that $1,875 if you are a one pack a day smoker. If you smoke more than that, imagine the reward you could get.

What of the people around you?

Can you use the people around you, like your spouse and kids, to give you enough incentive to quit smoking? The vast majority of parents claim they want only what is good for their children, then fill the air with smoke for them to inhale and potentially become ill from breathing. Take a look at your children and think of the quit smoking ways you will try to give them a better, healthier life.

Were you alone when you started smoking or did someone else introduce you to smoking? Did you make the choice alone or did someone else help you with your first cigarette? They may not have held the cigarette to your lips while you inhaled, but you had help in the way of a suggestion. Quitting is no different as many will need help in finding the quit smoking ways that will work.

There are many former smokers around who have kicked the habit of smoking who know different quit smoking ways. Make use of their advice by calling different organizations where they give hand to help people like you. You did not start smoking alone, so do not try to stop on your own. Become part of a group of smokers who want to be non-smokers.

There are many reasons to quit smoking

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

No smoker can escape from attention of non-smokers who will always be ready to tell them of the reasons to quit smoking. Many states and communities are passing laws regulating where smoking is permitted and banned. These have already convinced many smokers to quit smoking.

In the past not much attention was given to quit smoking. Many times during that period smokers were witnessed on television shows and in the movies lighting up their cigarettes and despite the earliest warnings about the health hazards of cigarettes, there was no real push to get people to quit smoking.

The dangers of second-hand smoking were originally denied.  Those that smoked, often in the presence of children and other non-smokers wanted more scientific evidence to back that claim before they would quit smoking around others. Even with overwhelming evidence of the dangers, many are still finding it hard to quit smoking.

Smoke smokers started smoking in their teens or early twenties. It is very easy to become hooked on cigarettes but not nearly as easy to quit smoking, as people would like to think.

Addiction Is Mental and Physical

Nicotine is the main addictive drug in cigarettes and because it causes a physical addiction it can take as long as a week to work out of the system. The first 72 hours are considered the worst time when people quit smoking but after that the physical craving for nicotine diminishes. The remainder of the addiction is considered mental, although there are physical aspects to it as well.

Do you wonder what you are going to do with your hands after you have quit smoking? Your are not alone. Many smokers have that as their main reason for not quitting smoking. In order to reduce the mental craving some turn to eating or snacking, which is something they rarely did while they were smoking. Weight gain is a common occurrence for non-smokers, but many believe that losing weight will be easier than when they quit smoking.

Some people take a long-term approach to quitting smoking. They started slowly with the habit, now they want to quit smoking over a long time even with a target date somewhere in the future. Various other ways are considered such as hypnosis, laser techniques and various other substitutes. It does not matter what method you use as long as you realize that you have to take whatever measures are necessary to quit smoking, for your health’s sake.
